If you're as confused as I was when I first saw Fire by Nite (FBN) for the first time and wondering whether you should cry, laugh, or be angry, let me save you some time: it's all three. This show about Christian values is 100% serious, and with captain Blaine Bartel at the wheel, scientists across the globe are still arguing over whether or not this is the most cringe-worthy television show that ever aired (across all categories). It was originally aired in 1986 and did not age well.
If you tune in on Thursday nights, you might be lucky enough to meet Blaine and his entourage. This includes Family First and Friends, two skits where they teach the Christian gospel through racism and homophobia.
On a more upbeat note, Fire by Nite is known for its spectacular soundtrack and guest artists, some better than others. The NOWSPACE often discusses their musical talents at length, though bold critiques (good and bad) frequently divide the Plex community.
But don't take our word for it, check it out for yourself.
There are a lot of moving parts that contributed to the success of Fire by Nite and it's hard to pinpoint its success to just one thing.
However, it is clear (which you'd know if you've seen the show), that the Mullet played a pivotal role in its triumph over the American Christian youth.
The show was mostly shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the early years of the show. They did however spend a whole episode saving people down in Mexico.
